The local fire department has successfully put out a blaze in a wood chip warehouse in Wahlhausen, located within Eichsfeld district. A representative for the district reported that the fire, which originated at a wood processing company, was eventually controlled hours later. Reports indicate that flames eventually spread to a production hall on the premises. The fire department was aided by a technical relief organization in its efforts to extinguish the flames well into the night. The damage caused by the fire is estimated to exceed one million euros, according to a Thuringian state police spokesperson; however, an ongoing investigation into the cause of the fire remains inconclusive.
The fire reportedly commenced around 8:30 AM. Shortly after 1 PM, the district declared that the fire was under control, though extinguishing efforts continued late into the evening. Deployed were approximately 200 individuals and 50 vehicles. As a precaution, the rescue control center issued a warning due to the impending smoke development. Motorists were subsequently advised to divert their routes away from the site of the fire.
