A gambler in Wales was on the brink of a massive win - GBP 800,000 (EUR 938,765.38 - but decided to use the cash-out feature and settle his bet early. The result? He ended up taking home just GBP 5,130 (EUR 6,019.83).

In an unfortunate twist of fate, Ethan Conway, a 24-year-old scaffolder from Wales, didn't become an overnight millionaire thanks to a poor decision. Conway's experience serves as a cautionary tale to those who can't resist the temptation to cash out their winnings prematurely. WalesOnline reports that Conway placed a betting slip on the final results of three English Premier League games:
- Brighton 0:2 Manchester United
- Liverpool 2:0 Wolves
- Sheffield United 0:3 Tottenham Hotspur
With Manchester United's Diogo Dalot scoring the first goal, the first two predictions came true. The bookmaker then offered Conway a cash-out of GBP 5,130 (EUR 6,019.83). Conway, wanting to make a sure profit, accepted the offer, and his betting slip was settled in the 73rd minute of the match.
Heartbreak and Anger as Streak Continues
The fatal miscalculation came in the 88th minute when Manchester's Rasmus Hojlund scored the second goal. This outcome would have rewarded Conway with a whopping GBP 800,000 (EUR 938,765.38) had he held out until the end of the game. The disappointment was immense:

A Dresden gambler, while betting on Brazilian and Swedish soccer matches, placed a bet worth 35 euros with Tipico and managed to secure a total of 441,850 euros due to all 14 games going his way.
In 2018, a Ruhr region gambler correctly predicted five Bundesliga matchday results and won a staggering 357,739 euros with a stake of 1 euro. However, his payout was capped at 200,000 euros due to Tipico's win limit.
An Austrian bettor took home 300,000 euros after placing a bet of 3.56 euros on a total of 18 games. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the temptation of cashing out, meaning he missed out on a potential payout of 997,000 euros had he waited until the end of the games.
Conway's experience is a reminder to resist the urge for an assured win and be prepared for the possibility of an even bigger payout if you stick it out.
In the end, Conway may have lost out on a fortune, but he still managed to walk away with GBP 5,130 (EUR 6,019.83). And, as they say, it's better to have a small win than no win at all.
