Theater on Majorca - A beach club in El Arenal experienced a collapse, resulting in four fatalities.
Teams have been deployed to handle the emergency situation. Law enforcement is present onsite with a vast number of personnel, while they have secured a big area. The fire department assumes that there are individuals trapped and is present with multiple emergency vehicles and heavy apparatus for any potential rescue operations. All of the city's ambulances have been recruited to this incident.
Some residents have reported screaming from those potentially trapped. Numerous injured victims received immediate medical attention right in the street.
The incident took place at a two-story building in Mallorca, which housed the renowned "Medusa Beach Club." It's suspected that heavy pieces from the building landed on the restaurant's terrace. Initial examinations indicate that up to ten people could be buried under the rubble.
As per statements from the emergency services, onlookers saw the upper level fall initially and then saw the building collapse floor by floor. Neighbors reached out to the police after this occurrence.
The rescue squads are under immense time pressure. There's a potential hazard that neighboring buildings could sustain structural damage and need to be cleared out. The rescue teams are currently installing floodlights to help search for individuals stuck in the wreckage as darkness sets in.
Mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez Llabres, also arrived at the scene to better understand the situation.
