Ascending in Austria: A Mountain Adventure - A 32-year-old man from Munich tragically fell to his death while his girlfriend watched.

At approximately 3 PM on a Sunday (May 20), a man and his girlfriend (28 years old) were scaling the Eppenstein climbing garden in Styria. They were attempting a lead route, a common practice for this couple. The usual process is for the woman to secure the man as he scales the rock and then abseil him down once he reaches the top. However, this time things didn't go as planned.

Since the rope provided was a bit short, the Munich man couldn't reach the ground safely. Despite this being a frequent issue in climbing, the couple had prepared and had the necessary equipment to deal with it. They were planning to use a self-belay sling, a deflection ring, and an abseiling ring for the man to lower himself down.

The events took a tragic turn when, from a height of around 18 meters, the man from Munich fell to his death, right in front of his girlfriend. She reacted quickly and made an emergency call, but it was too late. The man had passed away by the time the police arrived.

Officials from the Murtal Alpine Police are currently looking into the cause of the accident and the exact sequence of events that led to this unfortunate outcome. They revealed that the climber likely attempted to use a common method for descending from his elevated position but fell in the process.

The Christophorus 17 rescue helicopter was also deployed
