Fortuna's financial interests are on the line. - A 32 million euro wrap-up awaits Allofs.
The difference in finances is significant. If Daniel Thioune and his team fail to earn promotion, their earnings from TV money would reduce by approximately EUR 2 million, based on a complex 5-year evaluation.
On the other hand, if they manage to make it to the top flight, they would receive around EUR 30 million more than before. This means a decrease of EUR 2 million or an increase of EUR 30 million.
32 million euros for Allofs!
Düsseldorf's manager Klaus Allofs (67): "Of course, we've considered the possibility of staying in the second division, as well as returning to the first division." However, the Fortuna legend doesn't envision a drastic change for the club in either scenario, similar to the aftermath of promotion in 2012 with 19 expiring contracts: "We have our core players. For example, we've extended the contracts of Jamil Siebert and Emma Iyoha." The situation varies when it comes to loan players. Allofs: "We need to put players like Christos Tzolis, Isak Johannesson, as well as forwards Christoph Daferner and Marlon Mustapha aside."
If Fortuna remains in the second division, their sports budget would shrink by the mentioned EUR 2 million from the current EUR 15 million.
Allofs: "Moving away from the high budgets of some clubs - this decision is up to the entire club, including the supervisory board and management team. It directly affects what our objectives are for the upcoming season."
However, if they win on Saturday against leaders Kiel (8:30 pm, Sky and Sport 1), they can keep all their sporting and financial opportunities alive. Allofs: "We need to win at least one more game just to reach the relegation playoffs. If we aim for promotion directly, we need to win both games. We'll do everything we can to achieve this."
