North Rhine-Westphalia: The Biggest German State Has Plans to Expand Maternity Leave - A 19-year-old driver collides with a group of female joggers, leaving three of them severely hurt.
In the remote area of Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock, near Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia, a troubling incident occurred on a Saturday afternoon. A young driver, just 19 years old, rammed into a group of female joggers. "They were struck head-on," stated a local police spokesperson. One of the women, aged around 70, might not survive the impact.
The three injured women - hailing from Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock and Bielefeld - were rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment. Emergency services responded swiftly, deploying both fire engines and a rescue helicopter to the site of the accident.
Investigating the cause of the accident
The remaining members of the group of joggers, numbering five, fortunately remained unscathed in the collision. However, they were understandably shaken by the incident and were provided with medical attention. The 19-year-old driver, also from Augustdorf, is currently unhurt but his vehicle's windshield was shattered. The car has now been confiscated for further examination.
The police spokesperson confirmed that an accident was the suspected cause of the crash. The driver had left the road on a right curve for reasons yet to be disclosed. It is undetermined at this time whether he was traveling at an excessive speed. The "Westfalen-Blatt" newspaper covers these events.
