Norderney is now more costly than Sylt. - 3.50 euros for the shocking news: North Sea ice surprises
In 2023, the typical cost for a single serving of ice cream in Germany was 1.62 euros. As per predictions, the price of ice cream in the country is projected to rise to an average of 1.72 euros by 2028.
If you're planning a trip to the East Frisian island of Norderney, you might be shocked by the price of ice cream at the "Frieseneis" store. A scoop there costs a hefty 3.50 euros, 50 cents more than the "Leysieffer" store in Westerland. In contrast, Munich offers more affordable options with an average scoop costing 2.12 euros.
As soon as you approach "Frieseneis", you're greeted with promotional posters for the ice cream. A notice inside lists the price as 3.50 euros. A staff member informs you that sauce toppings are complimentary, and each scoop is sizable like a tennis ball.
Notably, the ice cream is composed manually with regional organic milk. The generous scoops indeed fill your appetite.
Tasty, slightly expensive, and not for the budget-conscious
For many seasonal visitors, the cost is acceptable. However, islander Hendrik (45) takes a different view. "The price is high. In high season, tourists who've booked two-week stays might be able to afford it once a week. Eventually, the scoops with sauce will cost 8 euros."
Hendrik's final remark: "German vacations are enjoyable, yet costly."
