22 locations announced for 2013-2014 WSOP Circuit

Over the past decade, the WSOP Circuit has become a popular addition to the World Series of Poker calendar. While the format changes every year, it now gives players from across the United States and Canada the opportunity to enjoy the WSOP experience at their local casino for a fraction of the cost of a normal WSOP event.

This week, Caesars announced the official schedule for the 2013-2014 WSOP Circuit, which will expand the existing circuit to cover a record 22 different locations throughout the year. New activities include a stop at the famous Montreal Casino and the addition of a second Canadian activity.

The tour will begin in August when Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut will host the first tour event. Foxwoods, which has one of the largest poker rooms in the world, was added to the tournament schedule for the first time last season.

There are a variety of events at each stop on the circuit, all of which offer players relatively affordable buy-ins. Many tournaments start at $365, while the buy-in for the Main Event at each location is $1,675.

As has been the norm in recent seasons, the WSOP Circuit will conclude with the National Championship. The top 100 players of the tour season will qualify for freerolls, with the WSOP itself contributing $1 million to the prize pool. Top WSOP players will likely once again have the opportunity to play in a $10,000 buy-in tournament.

There will be some big changes for the national championships, though. Notably, the event will not be held in Las Vegas, but will be moved to the Caesars Hotel in Atlantic City. According to a press release from the WSOP, players will have the opportunity to compete in a last-chance online tournament that will award final spots to the national championship — assuming, of course, that Caesars Casino receives regulatory approval to operate online poker by then New Jersey receives .

“The WSOP Circuit continues to have strong momentum,” said WSOP Managing Director Ty Stewart. "We're proud to be the largest poker tour in North America and we believe we have the most comprehensive offering on the market. With vast venues, great value venues and exciting stops, action continues year-round."

The WSOP Circuit may not get as much attention as the “real” WSOP, but it’s a great way for poker players to experience WSOP action without having to travel to Las Vegas. Here's a quick overview of the upcoming tour schedule:
