Casino crime summary: Suspected drunk man assaults police officer inside casino

An intoxicated man allegedly ran over a Missouri police officer at the Hollywood Casino Hotel in St. Louis earlier this month, authorities revealed.

The suspect, James Ormsby, 58, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated - Injury to a Law Enforcement Officer, Missouri TV station KMOV reported. He was arrested earlier this month and is being held on $30,000 cash bail.

On August 14, the unnamed officer was working a second job at the Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

The officer saw Ormsby driving around the barricade, and in an attempt to stop him, the officer walked into the street. He raised his hands, signaling for Ormsby to stop. But Ormsby failed to stop and the front of his car hit the police officer.

The impact pushed the officer onto the hood of the car. Then he fell to the pavement. Ormsby still didn't stop. He eventually drove over the curb, police said. The vehicle then stopped.

Drunk Driving Suspect

Other officers began arresting Ormsby. They claimed his eyes were glassy, ​​watery and his speech was slurred. He leaned against the car as he tried to stand up, police added.

Police said Ormsby only admitted to drinking one drink earlier that day. When police searched the car, they found three empty vodka bottles. Ormsby claimed he did not see the officer before hitting him with his car.

He voluntarily submitted to a blood alcohol test at a local hospital. The results were not published.

Police did not provide any information about the officer's injuries. The case has been handed over to the local prosecutor's office.

Arrested after casino dispute

Earlier this month, a man was arrested after an altercation with another person at the Lucky Bear Casino in Hoopa, California. The Aug. 20 incident was reported to the Hoopa Valley Tribal Police Department.

Police arrived and apparently broke up the altercation. One of the suspects, Raymond Padilla, had an outstanding arrest warrant for an alleged probation violation, California television station KRCR reported.

He was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. His case has been transferred to the local prosecutor's office.

Search continues for Louisiana casino thief

Local law enforcement officials continue to search for a woman suspected of stealing items from others at the Margaritaville Resort and Casino in Louisiana. On Aug. 11, the suspect stole unidentified items and left the Bossier City gaming facility.

She is described as black and wearing a red and white Nike T-shirt and white Capri-style pants, Louisiana's KEEL radio station reported.
